The stars shone (often literally) on the Oscar red carpet last night. Here’s a few of our favorite looks.
Women in metallics: Amanda Seyfried in Armani Prive, Sandra Bullock in Marchesa, and Carey Mulligan in Prada.
Men in black (and blue): Taylor Lautner in Dolce & Gabbana, Ryan Reynolds in Tom Ford, and rule-breaker Robert Downey Jr. in Lanvin (and sneakers).
Cutest duos included “The Dude” and his wife, Zoe Kravitz and her dad Lenny, and the dashing Colin Firth with Livia Giuggioli.
Greta Gerwig is the star of Lockerz favorite Gerta Gets A Boyfriend. She’s also starred in the indie classics LOL and Hannah Takes The Stairs. On March 19th, she hits the big screen in Greenberg, alongside Ben Stiller in a role that’s already winning her raves. We asked her a few questions about obsession, inspiration and living your life online.
Where did the idea for Gerta Gets A Boyfriend come from?
I was originally interested in how boring the act of Internet stalking is, although the emotions are extreme. You’re just sitting on your couch, searching. But your heart is racing and your mind is exploding thinking about the possible people your boy/girlfriend might have kissed. But when I actually sat down to write the episodes, I realized that I was also interested in the misinformation and the sense that you know a person that you don’t know at all.
What do you personally think about social networking?
I think it’s wonderful – I think that once a stalker, always a stalker. Social networking sites make it easier, but if you are the type to snoop, I think you will.
How do you think romance is changing when we’re all on the Internet?
I think that social networking is blurring or eliminating the line between public life and private life. In some ways, it’s like everyone is living like a celebrity – everything’s out there.
Gerta reads her boyfriend’s emails, setting off a catastrophic series of events. Is this something you’ve ever done – or been tempted to do?
Yes! Where do you think I get all the tricks? You have to go through not just the inbox, but also the sent mail, the drafts, the trash. I mean, you do all that if you are crazy jealous and looking to hurt yourself.
The locations and friendships in Gerta feel very real. Who are the other actresses?
Gerta’s “friends” are played by my real-life friends: Lena Dunham and Mary Wall are both actresses/writers/directors, and my friend Ana Kayne is an actress in New York City. The guy is Zach Woods, and he is a fixture of comedy here in New York at Upright Citizens Brigade — and he is now on The Office. It is always fun to shoot in New York with friends — it feels like structured playtime.
You’re in the new film Greenberg with Ben Stiller. Who do you play and what is the film about?
I am so bad at answering that question in any kind of succinct way, as it is far too close to me, but this is the Focus Features blurb: “GREENBERG is about Roger Greenberg [Ben Stiller], single, fortyish and at a crossroads in his life. He csoon finds himself spending more and more time with his brother’s personal assistant Florence (me!) , an aspiring singer and also something of a lost soul.”
What are you working on now?
I am writing a feature film, a play, and working on a strange video piece that involves early colonial American life. I think it is sort of going to be a faked PBS Ken Burns style documentary. Other than my own projects, I am looking at scripts for films and television and trying to figure out what comes next!
We just launched PLAY and Gerta Gets A Boyfriend is one of our first original shows. Our members really love the show. Have you had a chance to check out Lockerz?
Yes! Lockerz is a great website and a super idea! I am so happy that people are enjoying Gerta – it either means that they all feel sorry for me, or that they are all secretly stalkers themselves.
What films and books inspired you while making Gerta?
Comic strips inspired me, actually. I think they are the nearest thing to a web show — short, punchy, clever. I mean, maybe Gerta isn’t punchy or clever – but it certainly is short.

The chirping of birds and quick glance at sunshine has the Lockerz crew excited for spring. We’ve discovered the must-have accessory for bike rides and concerts in the park.
The Baggu bag is reusable and eco-friendly, but it’s also massively stylish. We love the latest version in a nautical theme, perfect for spring stripes and warmer days ahead. Get it here and get set for more Baggu on Lockerz.com very soon!
Jacob Angel is the host of Angel In the Kitchen. He’s cooked across America, working as a chef everywhere from Southern BBQ joints to the private kitchens of famous celebrities. We spoke with him about how he’s coming down to earth to make all our kitchens a little more heavenly.
What kind of meals will you be making on Angel In the Kitchen?
I want to cook what I think the viewers will want to learn — easy and simple cooking that tastes like you spent all day working on the meal, when in fact it was put together in a short amount of time. Keep it simple and real!
You visit college dorms to teach students to cook. What was that like?
It was awesome! I once actually used an ironing board with a clean towel on top to make a prep/cooking station!
How was Anthony as a chef-in-training?
Anthony is a picky eater, but loved everything I cooked. I think he now knows how to properly use a knife!
What is your favorite episode?
So far, “Munchies” was the most fun. The camera crew and the director got really creative with that shoot! They even stuck the camera into the freezer!
What kinds of things do you hope to show your viewers?
You don’t have to “go out” to have an amazing meal! Anyone can cook!
What’s an example of a quick, simple meal someone can make when they’re totally broke?
Check out the episode where I make Pasta Primavera with Parmesan for under 5 bucks!
Who’s the craziest chef you’ve ever met?
The original owner of Aubergine in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a freaking nut case, but probably the most talented French chef I ever worked for! If my work didn’t meet his standards he would actually throw it on the floor then tell me that his 5-year-old daughter could do a better job!
When did you start working as a chef?
My first job at 16 years old was at an award winning BBQ restaurant named John Wills Bar and Grill in Tennessee. I waited tables, worked the counter, prepared food, and also went out on catering jobs. It was a great foundation that got me really interested in the culinary field.
You went to culinary school and then trained as a pastry chef. How was that?
That job was very intense… going to work at midnight, and not getting off until 3 or 4 in the afternoon! We made 400 lbs of puff pastry, 600 lbs of croissant dough, and 800 lbs of Danish dough every week!
You’ve been “head chef,” correct?
Yes, most recently I was the head chef of a famous restaurant called Christina’s Food and Wine on Orcas Island. After that experience I was ready to do my own thing, so I started Angel’s Food Catering with my wife, Kristi, and we are still currently running it today. We are on our eighth year and have a large client list, including many celebrities and world famous people! Since we have opened, we have traveled all over the country cooking for our clients. It has been a blast!!!
What is your goal with the show Angel in the Kitchen?
To teach the world how to cook simple, healthy, and delicious meals from the comfort of their own home!
